In the past, you may have picked up your loved one and brought them to your home for several days during the holiday season so that they can spend time with their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members. You may be requested to secure a reservation at the restaurant or they may have other expectations for family members when visiting on these days.

Make sure that you do not surprise your loved one. If he or she is not expecting you on the holiday, don’t just drop in unannounced. Remember, your loved one is now in a community where there are many other people their age. They may have other plans with their friends that they have made. Talk to your loved one about your idea of spending the day with them at the assisted living facility. They may be thrilled by this idea or they may prefer that you go somewhere off-site as this would get them away for a while with you.

Just because you might not be planning much with regard to the holiday season just yet, it’s time to begin thinking about it when someone in your family resides at assisted-living.

As manager during the transition to new ownership, Cindy reorganized internal operations and conducted leadership training for Executive Directors. As a result of her management and expertise, one of the company’s facilities (in Ocala, Florida) received a deficiency-free survey, resulting in the lifting of a moratorium on operation.

A nurse for 36 years, senior care has always been Cindy’s passion. Desiring to work more closely with residents, Cindy became a Category II Administrator in 2005. As Ashbury Manor’s Administrator, Cindy understands the complexities associated with dementia and cognitive impairment and she has fallen in love with seniors with dementia or cognitive impairment and their families.

Cindy is Treasurer of the local “Senior Coalition” chapter. She enjoys mentoring new candidates who want to become administrators.
