Assisted Living in Mobile AL
By the time Nancy was 82, she had accomplished almost all the goals she set for herself as a 19-year-old girl who had just met the love of her life. She got married, raised children, and even started her own business after her kids were all grown up and out of the house.
When her husband retired, they planned to travel the world. They got started, seeing many wonderful sites across the country, but then he fell ill. She spent the next six years taking care of him, and that took a toll on her physical health. It also took a toll on her emotional well-being.
At 82, she had been living alone for six years and had been to far too many funerals. Most of her friends were now gone or had moved away. Some had gone to an assisted living community nearby. She felt alone and as though she was doing nothing more than waiting for the days to pass so she could be with her husband once more.
Nancy’s life was not in balance.
Nancy’s life was no longer in balance. She didn’t have any activities she enjoyed doing. She did a puzzle every once in a while, watched a lot of TV, and felt depressed more often than not.
Because of that loss of balance, she didn’t feel as though her quality of life was anything worth living. Then, her daughter mentioned the prospect of moving into that same assisted living community were her friends were spending their days.
At first, Nancy was reluctant, but eventually began considering it more seriously. When she finally made the decision to move, she was concerned about the cost. She wanted to leave something for her children and grandchildren, but depending on how long she lived, assisted living could eat up all of her life savings and the equity in her house.
Her family told her to not think about those things. Being comfortable, happy, and as active as she wanted to be was far more important than that, they said.
They wanted her to have some type of balance. They wanted her to be able to take it easy, not worry about home maintenance, not worrying about cleaning the house, being able to spend time with friends, making new friends, playing games, and so much more.
For Nancy, her move to assisted living certainly brought her the balance she had been lacking in life.
