When Someone Needs Long-Term Care, Assisted Living Is a Great Option

Assisted Living in Citronelle AL

It’s never easy to witness a parent or other family member getting older, losing strength, mobility, and balance. It’s not easy to witness a loved one struggling to take care of themselves and stay Assisted-Living-in-Citronelle-ALsafe, even within the comfort of their own home. We want to help. We want to support them. However, we may have time restrictions, lack of experience, and simply may not be able to offer the kind of care support they need for the long-term aspect of their life.

When a person requires any type of long-term care, there are a number of options. One of those options is assisted living.

November is National Long-Term Care Awareness Month and there are a number of reasons why assisted living is a great option to consider. Contrary to popular belief, assisted living is a lot more affordable than many people realize.

First, the cost of assisted living is not much more, on average, than full-time home care assistance.

Many people unfortunately buy into the philosophy that hiring a home care aide is less than half the cost of assisted living. There are certain regions of the country where assisted living may very well be more expensive, but on average, based on full-time, 40 hours a week care from an experienced caregiver hired through an agency, assisted living is actually less expensive.

Second, seniors are surrounded by peers.

When a person is surrounded by others their own age, sharing many of the same interests, they often feel much more comfortable. Human beings are social creatures and are designed to spend time with other humans. In this kind of environment, seniors get an opportunity to reconnect with friends they may have lost touch with a long time ago or at least make new friends.

Third, there are plenty of activities to enjoy.

When a person has been dealing with physical challenges that limit their ability to get out and stay active and involved in a variety of activities, it can increase feelings of isolation, loneliness, and depression.

By choosing assisted living, they will be able to stay as active as they want to be or remain within the comfort of their own room for a while, if they prefer.

Finally, it reduces stress and anxiety on everyone in the family.

When a senior requires long-term care, choosing assisted living can reduce a lot of anxiety and concern among family members as well as a senior himself or herself.
