Assisted Living in Citronelle AL: How Safe Is Assisted Living?

Safety is often a top concern for family members of elderly loved ones, especially when they are living alone. They might look into various options, including assisted living. They want their loved one to be as safe as possible, but how safe are these facilities?

It depends on the facility.

As with most things in life, you can’t really say one place is safe and have it apply to all similar types of places. Every assisted living facility is different, so it’s important to acknowledge that each facility may have its own benefits and limitations or liabilities with regard to safety.

The best thing anyone can do is to schedule a tour at an assisted living facility, speak to the administrators, and observe what types of safety features are in place for elderly residents.

The attentiveness of staff is important.

If the facility does not have enough staff members on hand, it could put certain residents at unnecessary risk. This is especially true for an elderly individual who has difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, who relies on help to do so, but has to wait for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, or more. The longer a person has to wait for physical assistance, the greater the chances are they will attempt to do whatever they need help with on their own.

When a facility is properly staffed and when the staff members are attentive to the needs of their residents, safety records are usually much more impeachable and impeccable.

The senior needs to plan properly.

Safety is also up to the elderly individual. If he or she requires any type of physical support and assistance, they need to make sure they express those needs when applying for residence at a facility. They need to be honest about their own limitations.

It’s great to have a great deal of pride and not want to be open and honest about one’s limitations, but that’s not going to do anything to benefit them with regard to safety.

For those concerned about the safety and well-being of an elderly parent or other loved one, encouraging them to consider assisted living is one of the best options they have available to them.
