Assisted Living for Spouses near Saraland, AL
One Couple’s Decision It’s Time to Move into Assisted Living near Saraland, AL”
Jane and Mike had been married for twenty years. They didn’t have any children together as they met later in life, but they cared about each other deeply and when their respective health conditions began to significantly decline through the years, they leaned on one another for their basic care. Jane was assisting Mike in bathing and Mike was helping Jane get out of bed from time to time.
Over the years their friends all began to move away and this was taking an emotional toll on them. They were beginning to feel lonelier and more isolated. Even though they had each other, they couldn’t help feeling as though life was becoming a greater struggle. Finally one evening while they were eating dinner together Jane brought up the concept of moving into an assisted living community.
At first Mike wasn’t going to even hear of such a thing. He had often associated assisted living with nursing homes: some decrepit place that was filled with sick and dying people who were neglected, ignored, and living in their own filth. It took a while but Jane finally managed to discover just what was causing him to have such an impression about these places.
When she talked about an assisted living facility in particular, she did so with such passion and thrill that Mike had no choice but to listen. The more he listened, the more he began to realize that either he was thinking of something that had once happened a long, long time ago, or he was thinking about something else entirely, such as nursing home care.
Mike’s next concern was that they wouldn’t be able to live together if they moved into the assisted living facility. For him, he associated these places with single men and women who had lost their spouses. He didn’t know that married couples could move into the residences and enjoy all of the perks and benefits that they had to offer. He didn’t know that just because they were married and still together they could still enjoy assisted living.
The more he learned about it from Jane, the more Mike warmed to the idea. She sealed his commitment to move when he found out that one of their best friends, a couple, was already living there (he thought they had moved too far away to visit). Now he was excited and couldn’t wait to experience assisted living for himself.
